Live Mesomap Added

Mesomap Live has been added to SoHiWeather. A mesomap is a combination of the terms “mesonet” and “map”.

A mesonet is a regional network of observing stations (usually surface stations) designed to diagnose mesoscale weather features and their associated processes.

A “map” is a graphical representation of some area.

So, a mesomap is a graphical representation of observing stations.

Station Information

The SoHiWeather station is a wireless Davis Vantage Pro 2 with Fan-Aspirated Radiation Shield. The station is connected to a home built PC that is 100% dedicated to the weather station and runs 24/7. The PC consists of XP 1700+ CPU, 40 Gig drive and 768M memory.

The primary software is Weather Display. Also running on the same machine is Virtual Weather Station by Ambient Weather. Both programs run at the same time by using VirtualVP. The software updates the web site every 5 minutes.

The station was set up in late October of 2005 and went online on November 5, 2005.
